This, however, is incorrect, for the two are completely separate series animated and produced by different companies. However, it was the Duel Monsters series that went on to become an international phenomenon, and when early fans stumbled upon the first series, many christened it “Season 0,” a lost season of Duel Monsters. In case you don’t know, the first Yu-Gi-Oh! series, simply called “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, aired in Japan between April and October of 1998 - two years before the series “Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” premiered. What? Someone actually cares about my old show?!
