She’d seen the games televised so many times, knew her parents’ fights like the back of her hand, but it didn’t prepare her to see her teammates slaughtered amongst the first to fall. Adrenaline courses through her veins, and she tries to ignore the regret gnawing at the back of her mind. It’s days before the game starts, and they’re distraught, devastated, and it’s too late to stop what’s happening. After countless white lies and video calls, she confesses her plans to her parents. Signing up is a breeze when the gamemakers realise who she is, and in no time she’s training for the next season. The only destination she plans to visit is Kings Canyon.

Mirage and Wraith sympathise, knowing just what it’s like to try and forge your own path after living in a shadow, and so their daughter leaves, claiming she’s gonna spend some time visiting popular destinations, see if she learns anything. She tells her parents how much she loves them, but also that she needed to take a trip to ‘figure out who she was for herself’. She plays dumb, acting as though she had no idea (though a hint of suspicion flickers across Wraith’s face), and somberly agrees with whatever they say. When she’s 18, she’s already been working on her skill set for a couple years, but this is when Mirage and Wraith sit her down and reveal their past.

The girl is just as smart as her parents, if not moreso. finally, she pays her uncle Pathfinder a visit - “hey, Path! I heard you were a good shot, and I kinda need a hobby. then, she goes to Mirage - “hey, pa, what’d you use those holograms for in the first place, anyway? because I have some ideas that’d be interesting to imple- impal- implema- uh, interesting to use”. It’s a couple of years before she actually enters, but in the mean time she first goes to Wraith - “hey, ma, i felt like this guy was following me the other day and i want to know how to be on the offensive more” and obviously Wraith teaches her more than the basic self-defence the kid already knew.

they dodge the question, keep the whole thing on the downlow, and watches every single game their parents participated inĪnd then she starts thinking about participating herself So, one day they’re out, minding their own business, and they’re cornered by some reporter who’s tracked this kid down and is like “what’s it like being the child of two multi-time Apex Game champions?” and this girl just fuckin splits immediately. Mirage and Wraith had always just been like “we met just before a fight broke out one day but we helped each other out and here we are” but they never mentioned what kind of fight and like? how was this kid supposed to know they meant the apex games? So this kid is in their mid-teens when they find out about their parents’ past.
